Women in Leadership - Elevate to Empower

Thanks for your interest in my blog. Please key down for your valuable comments.. :-)

An amazing fact says "Men can narrowly focus their brains only on specific tasks or activities for long periods of time without tiring whereas Women are better equipped to divide their attention among multiple activities or tasks". why such talented women, a powerful force in the world is meagerly used? why were her potential is wasted for no reason?

This is a shocking report which depicts the percentage of women in leadership roles. Even in the developed country like the USA, there are insufficient opportunities for women.

It’s a painful revelation. “At the current rate of change, it will take until the year 2085 for women to reach parity with men in leadership roles in our country.” ( Source)

Is this reports and this prediction a good sign to the world? There need to be proper proportion of opportunities between men and women for a full development. Not only freedom matters.

Women leaders are countable which says only few have broken the barriers which is surrounded to her in the form of her family, relatives, society, religion and so on. unlike man, women has many dependents and she needs to extend her support for her family. First and foremost, her family needs to be supportive, the work environment needs to be suitable her, convenient travelling should be there, like this the list goes on. Most of the women are deprived of it. Some were courageous enough to fight for her rights. Some were not even allowed to raise her head.

Also, facts are saying that there is a significant break in work for most of the women once after they get married or they delivers a baby. This is not only prevalent in developing countries like India. But also in most of the developed countries.

We have 2 main stages of life of women. Women before marriage, after marriage whereas life of men will only be an extension of his life. Even many graduated women are forced to leave their job after marriage in order to take care of her family which is ridiculous.

All the women need to break their barrier and ready to face the hurdles with courage. She need to be determined in her goal. After all, change is inevitable. Hence, no problem persists for a long time.

For sure, all women have their commitments for their families. But still, there is a notable point to look after her career, future too. They all have their own capability, skills and area which they are expertise in. So, they need to express it with confident and make whole world to turn aside. Women, who already has a super power, need to arise as a super force in the world. We need to set up a goal, strive to achieve for that, set an inspiration for us and don't give up till our goal is achieved.

One of my strong inspiring lady is Indra Nooyi, CEO of Pepsico. She is basically from an orthodox, conservative, south Indian Brahmin family who struggled a lot, faced many hurdles, but still managed to reach a pinnacle. She is ranked #3 (previously #2) in Fortune's 50 Most Powerful Women in Business list. Each and every year, she manages to retain a position for her in this list. Also, Nooyi has been named 2009 CEO of the Year by Global Supply Chain Leaders Group.

She was born in chennai,India, in 1955. After completing her graduation, she joined IIM calcutta for her MBA. Starting her career in Tootal, a British textile company, she managed to excel in her work. In 1978, having a still more quest in managerial world, She Determined to study in the United States, she applied to and was accepted by Yale University's Graduate School of Management in New Haven, Connecticut. After getting the permission from her parents, she moved to USA. In 1980, She completed and obtained her degree of "Master of public and private management" successfully.

Later working in Boston, Motorola company and Asea Brown Boveri, she joined Pepsico as a chief strategist in 1994. She implemented many remarkable changes there like Tropicana acquisition, merger with quaker oats company and became the fifth CEO in PepsiCo in 2006. She is managing a corporate family of over 3,00,000 employees. she is an extraordinary leader. She explains she follows 5 C’s Model of Leadership. Indra affirms "There is nothing like a concrete life plan to weigh you down. Because if you always have one eye on some future goal, you stop paying attention to the job at hand, miss opportunities that might arise and stay fixedly on one path, even when a better newer course might have opened up". Also, she states "As a leader, I am tough on myself and I raise the standard for everybody; however, I am very caring because I want people to excel at what they are doing so that they can aspire to be me in the future.

Last but not the least, I will end up this with one my favorite slogan of Swami Vivekanda

"ARISE, AWAKE AND STOP NOT TILL THE GOAL IS REACHED"
