Switch off the lights -- Switch on the conservation

Thanks for your interest in my blog. Please key down for your valuable comments.. :-)

Have you all aware of this splendid challenge? Before moving to this topic, I have one simple question to you all. Most of us will go to attend meeting in conference room in our company. How many will switch off the lights before leaving the room? Even at home, TV and fan will be running all the time in spite of the fact that anyone is present there or not. Though we are not in the room, we won’t be aware or worried about the unnecessary electricity running around us.

So, it has become a need to create an initiative to save our electricity and our planet, the earth.
World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) came into picture to organise this programme with the name “The Earth Hour”. The event, started in Sydney Australia, is now held worldwide annually to encourage individuals, communities, households and businesses to turn off their non-essential electronic devices such as lights, fans and so on for one hour, from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. on the last Saturday in March, as a symbol for their commitment to the planet.

It was eminently started as a lights-off event in Sydney, Australia in 2007. Started with 26 major cities worldwide and 300 smaller towns, now it has grown to engage more than 7000 cities and towns worldwide. Today, Earth Hour engages a massive mainstream community on a broad range of environmental issues. The one-hour event continues to remain the key driver of the now larger movement.

As little drops of water makes an ocean, a small one hour has resulted with huge electricity conservation across the world. Many companies, colleges and schools have also come forward for this excellent cause. This also has a tagline of “I will if you will”. This programme not only promotes the notion of conservation of energy, but also the unity, harmony and cooperation among the individuals across the world.

So, the day has come. It’s tomorrow our IST time, 8.30 – 9.30 PM. Let’s give hand to this initiative. We need to join hands with our neighbours, relations, friends and family and cooperate to this hour. Switch off the lights to switch on the conservation and make a big difference in our green planet, the earth.
